Roadtrip 2021-2022 Winter: Seaside - Yachats - Brookings

Day 25 - Lazy Day in Brookings

We thought we'd played it perfectly: we slinked out of Vancouver under cover of snow and have laid low in some of the remotest places in Oregon, surfacing only for pizza and coffee. And beer. And seafood. And... Anyways, it probably took them a long time to figure out we were gone, and a ton of resources to find us. We haven't seen a black helicopter hovering over us since leaving Vancouver. Until today.

Speaking of pizza, this is Zola's - on the waterfront, and they have a forno. And they know how to use it. They've been closed for many days, but were open today!

In the Deadliest Catch - Dungeon Cove - they made a big deal about the dangers of "crossing the bar". Now we see here in Brookings Harbour - that you just have to read the instructions - and viola! - the bar is crossed.

The team assesses emergency exfil points along the waterfront. We have secured a very fast boat. Our go-bags are already aboard.

Dockside preparations in the harbour.

Further proof I have no future as a wildlife photographer. That speck is a hummingbird on a stick. If you use your imagination, you can imagine he is green. Really, really green. With a red flash on his front.

The cylon guardian at the end of the breakwater is particularly menacing.

Small craft warning is up at the harbour entrance.

A time-honoured tradition: the camperized school bus. Illegally camping.

The Team is down there making sure exfil Plan B is going to work. I'm taking a nap.

This is Robbie - the half a hut. We're not sure if even our friend George can sell this one!

The sun dips behind the rock stacks on Lone Ranch Beach.

Around the bend at low tide - the beach continues towards Black Point.

Just imagine the force it took to get this massive log to rest between these rocks. And the counter force needed to get it out!
